Sir Cedrick and his Island Roots
Introducing to you the steel drum music of SIR CEDRICK LUCES, # 1 Steel Drum Player and Miami’s 1991 Calypso King. Cedrick was born on the island of Trinidad during the steel pan era. As a teenager he toured with the famous Belmont Steel Band.
In his twenties, Cedrick came to the United States and played with celebrated jazz pan player, Othello Mollinex. Cedrick created impromptu melodies in his head and transformed them through the velvet, bell-like tones of his steel drum music. He is a versatile musician adapting his playing techniques to incorporate the best jazz, calypso, and reggae for a smooth original sound.
His first album, “Cocinando”, released in 1982 with the band“The Rising Tide”, had a strong following in the South Florida area. The Atlantic City release, entitled “The Big Bamboo”, is a funky calypso collection of old island favorites. In 1991 Sir Cedrick competed and won Miami’s Calypso King award with his original composition “If You Drink My Wine”. Soon to become the title for his next album “Ready To Party” combines some of his own creations with other reggae and calypso top hits. He has produced and recorded four steel drum albums, "Volumes 1 and 2", "The Best of" and "Welcome to the Florida Keys", which are available on CD from this site.
